Quick Overview

G.729 Codec License for use with Asterisk, 1 Concurrent Call

Product Description

Digium offers an implementation of G.729 that is compatible with Asterisk and is properly licensed from the intellectual property rights and patent holders. The requirements of the GNU Public License (under which Asterisk is most commonly distributed) make this proprietary software codec incompatible from a licensing perspective. To resolve this license incompatibility, Digium grants an exception to the GPL for customers of this G.729 codec.

By properly licensing this patent-encumbered technology and by granting an exception to the GPL to its customers, Digium makes possible the use of G.729 with Asterisk.

This software is licensed on a per-channel basis. When you complete the webstore order, a license key will be generated and e-mailed to you, along with instructions for its use. Follow the G.729 installation instructions to register the channels you have purchased. Registration of your key locks the license key to the server on which it was registered.

Please be sure to read the G.729 overview and the G.729 Codec Policy before purchasing to fully understand the benefits and limitations of this software.

Each Asterisk server that you want to perform G.729 transformations will require its own license key. Therefore, if you have Asterisk in multiple locations, then G.729 must be installed and licensed separately at each location. Use of G.729 with Asterisk does not interfere with the use of any Digium telephony interface cards.

Please note that one license key will be generated for each order line item. Each license key is good only for the number of channels for which it is generated. To license, for example, five (5) G.729 channels on an Asterisk server in Los Angeles and five (5) G.729 channels on an Asterisk server in Sydney, please place two separate line items in your basket for five (5) channels each. Do not make a single order for ten (10) channels, as you would only be delivered a single key for 10 channels that could only be used in one, not both, locations. You may add additional channels later by purchasing and registering additional license keys, even on the same Asterisk server.

The license key generated is intended for use on a single Asterisk server and must be registered to the server on which the G.729 codec will run. We strongly recommend that after registering the license key that you make a backup copy of the license file that is created as a part of the registration process.
